I am sure many of you will be well aware of Plastic Free July! For anyone that isn't familiar with this international event check out their website. It is a campaign to encourage people to reduce their plastic use for 1 month, with the main driver being that people will become more aware of the waste that they create and hopefully adopt behaviors that will reduce their impact on the environment.
What am I up to for PFJ you ask?
My new business Clever Green, is launching the Remix Plastic project - a sustainability education service in Christchurch. It has been a soft launch for the project, with talks and events already started and Facebook page with some info. I have a website in the works that will not only provide information about education services but also showcase some products that I am making with upcycled and recycled plastic.
The main hook for this venture is a mobile recycling unit that I will take around schools to demonstrate the plastic pollution problem, as well as provide novel and interesting ways of dealing with the plastic that exists in the world. I am partnering with some amazing groups, businesses and charities in Christchurch including Objet D'Fox who is building the machinery, Fab Lab Chch who will help me develop a 3D printing side to the unit, Enviroschools who are helping me facilitate the education and The Rubbish Whisperer who is supporting the products and providing plastic free alternatives.
