Make Your Own: Bread (Breadmaker)

June 21, 2017

One of the best eco assets I have invested in is my breadmaker. Now, I know you can make bread without one but the convenience of this device makes me far more likely to actually do it!

This recipe is one I have pieced together from a few different ones. I found that white bread is to light and not filling enough while brown bread is too heavy and stodgy and doesn't make for great sandwiches.

The advantages of baking your own bread are two fold; not only do you get far nicer, healthier bread than you buy at the supermarket but you are producing little to no waste if you purchase all the ingredients at the bulk store. And when I did the maths on this breadmaker, it has probably paid for itself three times in two years.

So, here you go....

280ml warm water
2 tbsp oil
3 cups white flour
1 cup wholemeal flour
1 tbsp milk powder
1 tbsp white sugar
1 tsp salt
1 ½ tsp breadmaker yeast
1 tsp active dry yeast

Put all the ingredients in the breadmaker bin in the order listed and turn on (bake, medium loaf).
